Welcome to the official Growthwave blog!
This space has been a long time coming. We are thrilled to launch a dedicated platform to share the stories, milestones, and real-world impact of our mission: empowering Rwanda’s youth to transition from technology consumers into technology creators.
There is no better way to kick off this blog than by celebrating the foundation upon which we are building: the incredible success of our pilot High School Developer Program at the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV).
The Pilot: Proving the Concept
When Growthwave was just an idea incubated within the ASYV ecosystem, our goal was ambitious but simple: we believed high school students were ready for more than just basic IT classes. We believed that with the right mentorship and a rigorous curriculum focused on software engineering and problem-solving, they could build real solutions.
The pilot program was our testing ground. The results blew us away. We saw students transform into confident problem-solvers, debugging complex issues and collaborating on projects.
This video gives a behind-the-scenes look at the energy and dedication during those initial months of the program:
Bridging the Gap: The May 10th Industry Workshop
Crucial to the Growthwave model is ensuring our students aren't just learning in a vacuum, they need to understand how these skills apply in the real Rwandan and global marketplace.
On May 10, 2025, we held a pivotal workshop. We invited seasoned industry professionals, working software engineers, project managers, and tech founders to ASYV. They didn't just give speeches; they rolled up their sleeves, reviewed student projects, and shared the hard-won realities of a tech career.
The day culminated in our students presenting their own capstone projects to these experts. The feedback was electrifying. The professionals weren't just being polite; they were genuinely impressed by the technical depth and creativity of the high schoolers' work.
Watch the highlights of that incredible day, including snippets of the inspiring talks and the student project presentations:
The Proof is in the People: Meet Cohort 1
Ultimately, Growthwave isn't about Python or JavaScript; it's about people. It’s about the confidence a young person gains when they realize they have the tools to build the future they want to see.
The pilot program was a success because of the resilience, intelligence, and hard work of our very first cohort. Their growth is our proudest achievement.
Don't take our word for it. Hear directly from the graduates of the ASYV pilot about how this program shaped their mindset and their future goals:
What’s Next for Growthwave?
The success at ASYV proved that our model works. Now, it’s time to scale that impact.
This blog will be your window into that journey. In the coming weeks and months, watch this space for:
- Announcements about our expansion into new schools across Rwanda.
- Deep dives into our curriculum and teaching philosophy.
- More spotlights on brilliant student projects.
- Technical insights and resources for young developers.
The first wave has crested, but the tide is just coming in. Thank you for being part of the Growthwave community.
